Macquarie fund into hyperscale DC

Macquarie Asia-Pacific Infrastructure Fund 4, MAIF4, has partnered with locally listed cloud IT company Gabia to develop a next generation hyperscale data centre platform. They are investing W600bn (US$420m) to develop hyperscale data centres in the country over the next four to six years.

The partners will develop an initial 40MW data centre in Ansan, an industrial hub 30km south of Seoul in Gyeonggi province. Macquarie said in a statement that the development will complement a Gabia data centre in nearby Gwacheon, which is reported to have an IT capacity of 10MW.

Macquarie will lead asset origination, financing, permitting and development for the data centre projects and Gabia will handle design, construction and operation of the facilities through its Korea Internet Neutral Exchange digital infrastructure unit, which has seven data centres in the country, one in Tokyo and one in Hong Kong.
