Local developer Casa dos Ventos Energias Renovaveis is looking to invest at least R$700m (US$147m) in a 220MW wind project in the north-eastern state of Alagoas.

The company has submitted its request to Alagoas’ environmental institute (IMA) for approval. Casa dos Ventos says it will install around 50 wind turbines for the scheme. There are currently no spinning wind projects in the state.

Casa dos Ventos is active in project finance markets and recently said that its 189MW Rio Grande do Norte wind farm will require US$370m to deliver and it is looking for a financing backing the scheme.

Casa recently signed an agreement with Vestas to provide turbines. The delivery of wind turbines is planned for Q4 2023 and Q1 2024, with commissioning scheduled for Q2 2024.

The scheme already has multiple offtake agreements with commercial and industrial customers including local petchem group Braskem, energy major BP, battery manufacturer Grupo Moura, miner Anglo American, Brazilian shoemaker Vulcabras Azaleia, and local digital solutions company TIVIT.

Casa dos Ventos is based in Sao Paulo and Fortaleza. It has a total pipeline of 43.5GW of power, both operating and under development, including 1.1GW of projects currently under construction. It focuses on private power supply deals with industrial customers.
