Mega solars approved

Local Liberal MP Charlotte Cane said secretary of state Ed Miliband had "granted this permission despite the examiner recommending that the scheme should not be approved. This vast solar farm marches through large swathes of my constituency".

The 350MW Mallard Pass scheme in Lincolnshire being developed by Newcastle-based Windel Energy and Canadian Solar's Recurrent Energy has been approved despite 3,000 signing a petition saying it would take up prime farmland. Windel and Recurrent have set up a joint venture to develop 1.4GW of solar in the UK with Windel responsible for early-stage development through to ready-to-build status and Recurrent providing funding support and procuring power purchase agreements. They are developing a 350MW solar and energy storage park, Fosse Green Energy, near Mallard Pass.

Low Carbon has won consent for its 500MW Gate Burton scheme in Lincolnshire. Villagers from 30 local villages are trying to oppose four major solar schemes in the area – Gate Burton, West Burton, Tillbridge and Cottam, which could cover 13,000 acres within a six-mile radius.
