The NEA Kolda project is backed by €72m in financing, structured by the Emerging Africa and Asian Infrastructure Fund, with Netherlands’ Entrepreneurial Development Bank and the German Investment Corporation as co-arrangers.

Energy from the site will be secured for the national grid under a 25-year PPA with Senelec, Axian said.

Construction began in May using the company’s own funds. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of November.

Axian Energy is a subsidiary of Madagascan conglomerate Axian Group, which is led by CEO Hassanein Hiridjee. Axien Energy’s CEO is Benjamin Memmi.

The company has 350MW of installed capacity and 77MW under development. It is targeting 2GW of installed capacity by 2030.
