NSW tenders for 1GW storage
New South Wales is accepting bids for 1GW of long-duration energy storage capacity.
The Australian Energy Market Operator will accept bids for Tender Round 6 for Long Duration Storage under the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap. The bids must target at least 8GWh of storage capacity and will connect to state-wide facilities or new infrastructure in renewable energy zones.
Eligible projects will sign long-term energy service agreements and will be required to be operational by 2034.
AEMO Services has two legislated targets for LDS infrastructure – 2GW and 16GWh by 2030 and 28GWh by 2034.
Bidding opens June 10, and the winners will be announced as early as December.
The tender bid announcements come a day after the NSW government gave access rights to 10 renewable energy projects to connect to the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone. The projects have 7.15GW of renewable energy and storage capacity.
