Welcome to the Project Finance International (PFI) LNG Roundtable, sponsored by Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ. The event was held in late November at the Thomson Reuters head office in Canary Wharf, London - at a time when the world’s largest project financing, Ichthys LNG, was due to be signed while rumours and statements on cost overruns on new projects were growing, particularly in Australia.

Welcome to the Project Finance International (PFI) Indian Infrastructure Roundtable, sponsored by L&T Infrastructure Finance Company. The event was held in the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi recently and followed on from the PFI Mumbai Roundtable event held last November. As Suneet Maheshwari, CEO and MD of L&T Infra, said in his opening remarks at the Taj, Delhi was chosen this time around to “have some greater dialogue with a different group of people”.

Welcome to the Middle East PPP roundtable, hosted by Reuters Project Finance International (PFI). Our latest roundtable was the first conducted outside London, in Bahrain, and we hope to return to the region next year as part of our 2009 roundtable programme. The level of interest in the subject resulted in the highest number of participants in a PFI roundtable at the Middle East PPP event, with 10 attendees representing all elements of the PPP sector - governments, sponsors, advisers, bankers, equity players and legal firms.

This is the third PFI roundtable this year - following the Funding Social Housing Partnerships event in May and IPP EPC event in July. We will be hosting our fourth roundtable in Bahrain on Middle Eastern IPPs in early November - bringing to an end a successful first year for PFI roundtables.

Funding Social Housing Partnerships is the first roundtable Project Finance International has held and the topic and discussion could not have been more stimulating. Social housing has been a backwater for the project finance sector. While other social infrastructure areas such as schools and hospitals supplied a regular pipeline of deals in the private finance initiative (PFI) sector, social housing remained at base camp.
